Choosing the Right Protection
Not every card needs the same treatment, and over-protecting bulk is an easy way to waste money. A practical way to think about it:
Bulk and playables
Penny sleeves are enough for cards you're sorting, trading in volume, or storing in a box. For a deck you actually play, matte deck protectors are the standard — they shuffle well, resist wear, and the matte finish reduces glare and sticking.
Cards worth more than the sleeve
Once a card carries real value, the usual approach is a penny sleeve inside a toploader. The soft sleeve stops the rigid holder from scuffing the card's surface and edges, which is the most common way a card gets damaged in storage.
Chase cards and long-term storage
Magnetic one-touch holders are the step up: rigid, UV-resistant, and sealed with a magnet rather than tape or screws. Match the point weight to the card's thickness — 35pt suits most standard modern cards, while thicker cards and relics need 55pt or higher.
Sets and display
A 9-pocket binder is the right home for a set you're building. Stay-flat designs keep pages from bowing as the binder fills, and side-loading pockets reduce the chance of cards sliding out when the binder is handled.

What size sleeves do I need for Gundam, Magic, Pokémon or One Piece cards?
All four use standard-size cards, so standard deck protectors fit every one of them. Japanese-size sleeves are a different, smaller size and are only needed for Japanese-print cards.
What is the difference between a toploader and a one-touch holder?
A toploader is an inexpensive rigid plastic sleeve the card slides into from the top. A magnetic one-touch holder is a two-piece case that closes with a magnet, is usually UV-resistant, and is meant for cards you intend to keep protected long term.
Do I need a penny sleeve inside a toploader?
Yes, we'd recommend it. Sliding a bare card into a rigid holder is the most common cause of edge and surface scuffing, and a penny sleeve costs a fraction of a cent.
What does the "pt" number on a holder mean?
It's the card thickness the holder is designed for, measured in points. Most standard modern cards fit a 35pt holder; thicker cards, patch cards, and relics need 55pt or more.
